How does Bouncie get power?

While driving, Bouncie operates entirely from the power provided by the OBD2 port. In the first five seconds of turning on your vehicle, you should see lights inside of Bouncie.

While the vehicle is parked, Bouncie enters into a low-power mode where it monitors the health of the vehicle's battery, and periodically checks in with our servers to report its operational status, cell-network availability, and update its location.

The app always shows the vehicle's location and device health, even when the vehicle is off.

Does a cellular device need to be in the vehicle for Bouncie to work?

The device is self-contained and communicates to our servers over its own internal cellular connection (using an internal sim card), so you don't have to worry about carrying a cell phone with you while driving. However, if you want to view the data collected by Bouncie, it can be accessed in the app from anywhere.

Text and email alerts are not sent since the Bouncie app is your one-stop-shop to view driving data. Even though you would not receive a text as a general notification, you would get a text in the event of an impact if you have that feature enabled in the app.
